On 13th December, Y11 pupils at Millden Centre took part in the school heat of the Poetry by Heart competition. This is a national competition for pupils where they must memorise and perform two poems – one written before 1914 and one after 1914. One of the poems must be by a Scottish poet or a poet resident in Scotland.

Mrs Swail and Miss Davidson were joined by Mrs Knight to judge the competition and they were judging the performances based on voice and presence, understanding and accuracy.

All competitors made strong attempts to recite the poems at a suitable pace and volume, engaging the audience with their expression. However the best performance was from Tristan Whiteside whose delivery was particularly captivating. Chloe Knight’s performance earned her the position of runner up. Both Tristan and Chloe have been invited to attend the regional heat at Dundee University on 1st February. We wish them all the best.
